Frequently Asked Questions

TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

  • Health systems using Epic are eligible for Lupus Advisor. Typically, these organizations have a Lupus Clinic within their rheumatology department. The doctors and nurses who specialize in treating patients with lupus are the initial users for Lupus Advisor with the addition of other rheumatologists over time. Organizations with fellowships in rheumatology are also using Lupus Advisor to assist in educating fellows about lupus documentation and treatment.

  • Yes, Lupus Advisor meets all security requirements for both HIPAA and Epic. Data used in Lupus Advisor is securely stored in Amazon Web Services servers.

  • A Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is required to participate in Lupus Advisor. The BAA acknowledges that personal health information (PHI) is included in Lupus Advisor and that POCP has the duty to protect that information under federal law.

  • Connecting Lupus Advisor to your EHR requires a few steps. There is an implementation guide available that explains the steps. At a high level, the steps include:

    Request IT support

IT requests Epic assistance to connect Lupus Advisor to the health system’s EHR securely

Clinical resources team plans which Lupus Advisor care opportunities to include (all are optional) and the health system’s Epic order for the recommendation

POCP assists in the configuration of Lupus Advisor to the health system’s specifications

Health system Identifies target users (which doctors and affiliated staff) and the patients (patients with a lupus diagnosis) who could benefit from Lupus Advisor

Health system technical team sets up a Health Maintenance item for Lupus Advisor

IT tests the application in the health system’s test instance

IT activates Lupus Advisor, and the health system educates target users with resources from GSK
